Luciano Huck called “idiots” the group of billionaires who boarded the submarine Titan on an expedition to see the wreckage of the Titanic, 3,800 meters deep in the Atlantic.
“I wonder how the idiot, idiot, pays 250 thousand dollars to get into that can of sardines. It’s kind of morbid, because the guy is going to space, I understand, there is mega technology, the guy is going to take off a rocket, billions of dollars invested , technology that you will use in other things”, he said, at the beginning of the chat with Igor Cavalari (Igão) and Thiago Marques (MÃtico), from Podpah.
The presenter stated that he would never participate in an experience like this, because of the safety conditions of the vessel. He highlighted the fragility of the submersible and the morbidity of the context of the tour. “A guy enters a round thing, the size of an inflatable boat, he doesn’t even have a chair to sit on, then he goes down with a joystick, a small window, to see a ship that killed 1,600 people….”.
Then Huck did some thinking. “Where does human vanity go? The reflection I make a little of this is that you can have the money and power you want, it’s nature that commands. You can’t think you can face the sea”, he concluded.
The submersible had lost contact with the surface on Sunday (18) and this Thursday (22), the US Coast Guard announced the deaths of the five occupants “in a catastrophic implosion”. Huck gave the interview on Wednesday night (21), when the submarine and the billionaires were still being classified as “missing”.
