The capital of Venezuela, Caracas got its Mafalda, the most representative character of the Argentine cartoonist Kino. A statue of Mafalda by the sculptor Pablo Irgang was recently unveiled in Oberon Square, Baruta Municipality.

The artist has been creating statues inspired by the famous comic book series since 2009, authorized by Kino himself.

The truth is that for me it was a huge surprise. I’m a fan of Mafalda, like many, like everyone. I watched her since I was little and collected her comics. I’ve always loved her, and when faced with the challenge of rendering her in three dimensions, the only condition I made was that Kino participate“, said the sculptor.

Statues of Mafalda created by Irgang have been placed in the cities of Buenos Aires, Mendoza, San Salvador, Mar de Cobo, Argentina, and the cities of Oviedo and Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Spain.

The sculpture in Venezuela shows Mafalda accompanied by another of the comic book and animated series characters, Manolito. Both characters are depicted in a “humanized” manner, according to the sculptor.

The statue is 80cm tall and Mafalda sits on a bench so that passers-by can sit and take pictures with her.
