Losing the match to Turkey for the Volleyball Nations League left the Brazilian national team player Rosamaria very sad. But not to the point of preventing her from granting a previously scheduled interview to talk about her career and sport.

The 29-year-old former model from Santa Catarina just didn’t want to turn on the camera: “Do you have that option? I’m not very tidy”, she justified. The interview with F5 it happened just four hours after the team was beaten by three sets to zero in the world cup, and Rosamaria, at first, seemed to be more excited to talk about life beyond the courts.

With almost two million followers on Instagram, she says that nowadays she no longer sees herself as just an athlete. She does not consider herself an influencer either, despite being part of the agency team of one of the largest companies in this field in the country. Communicator is a term that she says makes sense, since networks are her window to the world, where she exposes her ideas. Nothing else—at least for now.

“This engagement of mine is very natural. I’ve always liked the world of entertainment and communication, even when I had very few followers. The rise on the networks was thanks to the results of volleyball but, nowadays, it’s a way I use to expose all my sides”, says she, who does not rule out becoming a professional influencer.

This is an option that he considers interesting for the post-career phase.

And what a career, tell yourself. Rosamaria started playing as a little girl, at the age of eight, and this is a rare case in the sport, as she acts as a winger and winger. In the last four years she has been defending teams from the very strong Italian school.

Her first call-up to the national team came at the age of 23, but some of her recent appearances in Brazil’s matches have been so remarkable that it seems she has been in the group for over a decade. Spontaneous, wild and explosive are some of the adjectives used to define her on the court, especially after the last Olympics, when she celebrated some points by teasing her opponents.

Rosamaria cursed? She swore, but it was like saying “not here, guitar” to the Russian player who glared at her when the two were at the net, in the quarterfinal match. The opposing athlete was soon hit on the head to get smart (it was unintentional, but the whole of Brazil vibrated at that moment), and Rosamaria was caught by lip reading celebrating the point with that curse word that rhymes with cashew juice.

“Perhaps people don’t expect these attitudes because I have a slightly more delicate or calm face. But that’s me, I don’t regret it because it’s all part of my will to win and to do my best. That’s it, if like it, like it, if you don’t like it…”, he jokes.

The “slightly more delicate” face is a hell of an understatement. Rosamaria has a classic beauty that is successful around the world, and on the networks too, where volleyball fans extol her harmony on the field (and off it) with other players, such as Carol Gattaz.

Rosamaria is reserved in relation to her personal life, but the truth is that there is a current ahead for her and Gattaz to be together. The two know that, they follow this crowd. “We laugh a lot, because people are very creative. I don’t know where they get certain things from, but we take it in a good way and with great affection. It’s funny, there are things that I really don’t know where they get it from.”

Brazil’s next game in the League of Nations is this Thursday (13th), against China.
