  • Iannis Xenakis: The greatest exhibition presentation of the great creator comes with a double tribute to EMST

Iannis Xenakis

EMST opens its doors to Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001), one of the most important creators of the 20th century, who with his multi-layered and radical work paved new paths for the culture of the 21st century. In collaboration with leading musical institutions from Xenakis’ two homelands, the Musée de la Musique-Philharmonie de Paris from France and the KSYME-Odeion of Athens from Greece, EMST organizes the largest exhibition presentation of Iannis Xenakis internationally. On the ground floor of the Museum, the exhibition Iannis Xenakis: Sonic Odysseys will be presented, the first complete major exhibition in Greece about the pioneering composer, music theorist, architect, engineer, mathematician and one of the most progressive and creative thinkers of the second half of the 20th century . At the same time, a new EMST production, the exhibition Xenakis and Greece, is presented on the 3rd floor of the Museum. The exhibition explores the troubled and complex relationship of Xenakis with his first homeland, from the years in France after his death sentence, to his return to Greece after 27 years of self-exile and his recognition. At the same time, the EMST will organize a series of events, such as screenings and concerts, that highlight Xenakis’ legacy in contemporary music and the absolutely current and always contemporary character of his vision, a universal conception of art, man and place.
