Ray Liotta, who died in May 2022, was honored with a posthumous 2023 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Big Jim Keene in “Black Bird.” The nominees for the 75th edition of the award were announced this Wednesday (12) by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences of the United States.
In the series, the late actor played the father of football star James Keene Jr. (Taron Egerton), who becomes a drug dealer. The Apple TV+ production received four nominations in total: Liotta and Paul Walter Hauser for Supporting Actor, Edgerton for Lead Actor, plus Best Cinematography.
The actor’s daughter, Karsen Liotta, thanked the honor in a statement shared with People magazine: “I am so grateful to Academy members for honoring my father with this nomination. He was incredibly proud of his performance in ‘Black Bird’, and It would mean the world to him to be nominated alongside Taron and Paul.”
Ray Liotta, known for films such as “Goodfellas”, by Martin Scorsese, and “Field of Dreams”, died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming the feature “Dangerous Waters”. The Emmy nomination comes more than a year after his death.
