Rob Lowe he said on a recent episode of the podcast “Podcrushed” (via Entertainment Weekly) that his departure from ‘The West Thing’ after four seasons was ‘the best thing’ he ever did as his participation in the series had now become “super unhealthy”.

Lowe starred as White House communications director Sam Seaborn on Aaron Sorkin’s hit NBC drama, but it was reported at the time that he had a disagreement with production in Season 4 over his pay. In the podcast the actor said that felt “undervalued” as long as he played in the series.

Whenever I talk to actors who complain about, you know, their relationships in the plays they’re in, I think that happens in any workplace,” Lowe said. “You could be in an environment where people use you as a punching bag, want to see you fail, don’t value you, whatever it is».

“Whenever I share my stories, people say ‘I’ll never tell my own stories again,'” Lowe continued. “They would make your hair stand on end, and there are some of them that I wrote. I shared some of it in my book, but I purposely didn’t share the other half, because it would make the people involved look so bad that I didn’t want to do that to them. I didn’t have a good experience».

Lowe did not share details about what happened during his time on “The West Wing.” When she left the show in Season 4, she said at the time that she had become “increasingly clear, for some time, that there was no longer room for Sam Seaborn». The actor reprized the role for two episodes during the final season of “The West Wing” in 2006 and again in 2020 in a reunion special for HBO.
