Former TV Globo narrator, where he stayed for more than 40 years, Galvão Bueno, 73, now leaves impartiality aside to offer his thoughts, especially about his favorite team, Flamengo.
That’s what happened on Thursday night (11), when the announcer spoke against Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, who was eliminated with the Libertadores team.
“I’ve been saying it since the day he arrived. Sampaoli is a loser. Flamengo was not born for a positional scheme, and with 30 different lineups in 30 games! Sampaoli, for you, it worked”, he published.
It is worth remembering that this was not the first time that Bueno asked for the foreigner to leave the club. A week ago, after the episode in which the player Pedro was attacked by Flamengo’s physical trainer, Galvão had already spoken about his desire to see the coach out of the team.
“What happened at Flamengo is unacceptable. A physical trainer attacks an idol, a national team player. The dismissal had to have been immediate. More: it has to mean the end of the line for Sampaoli. There is no climate for him anymore. He lost the locker room . He no longer has the respect of the players”, he pointed out at the time.
The broadcaster’s voice for sport for 41 years, Galvão left Globo in December last year and since then has been working on his own YouTube channel, which now has almost 1 million subscribers. Over there, he usually narrates some matches and interviews big names in the sport like Ronaldo Fenômeno.
However, this long-standing partnership can be resumed. Globo and Galvão are renegotiating the contract they signed and which is valid until the end of 2024. In recent weeks, a meeting was held to talk about an extension of the bond, which may even go beyond the sports area.
At the meeting, it was stated that Globo wants to use it more frequently. One of the broadcaster’s wishes is that Galvão be used in some way in broadcasts of the Brazilian national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which begin this semester.
This participation still has no defined role — this will be discussed in future meetings, but it is already known that it would not be as a narrator, a position in which Luis Roberto officially follows. Currently, Globo has a closed package with the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) for the transmission of nine home matches of the tournament that qualifies for the World Cup, along with festive preparation games organized by the highest football entity.
