Cleo made an outburst this Saturday (19) about the aesthetic pressure she suffered for a long time in her career. About to turn 41 years old, the actress said that it took her a while to realize that she had been sexualized at the beginning of her professional career. She recalled the first character Lurdinha from the telenovela “América” (2005), written by Gloria Perez.
“Although it was a wonderful role, it carried a marked sexual connotation. It is not possible to deny that this role solidified the way people came to see me”, explained Cleo, who did not deny having felt comfortable with the situation. “But that wasn’t the only way I wanted to be seen and when I realized the impact of this on my image and my own perception, it was too late”, she commented.
The eldest daughter of Glória Pires with Fábio Jr. acknowledged that the audiovisual market felt uncertain about how to take advantage of her talent in recent years, especially after the age of 35. “I noticed that, after 35, 37 years, directors and producers were no longer clear about how to fit me into productions. They didn’t know where to put me anymore.”
Cleo, who was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), said she then decided to create her own opportunities and break with the image strictly linked to aesthetics. “I made it a personal goal to produce audiovisual content that not only opens the door for me, but also for other women who are often overlooked so early in the industry,” she said.
