The Irish actor rose to fame playing Christian Gray opposite Dakota Johnson in the Fifty Shades franchise.
THE Jamie Dornan (Jamie Dornan) has admitted that he knew film critics would mock his role in the movie ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
The Irish actor rose to fame playing him Christian Grey next to Dakota Johnson in the “Fifty Shades” franchise.
The films, which were adapted from E. L. James’ romance novels of the same name, were poorly received by both audiences and critics. The trilogy’s average Rotten Tomatoes rating is 15%.
The franchise, however, performed well at the box office, grossing $1.32 billion worldwide and ending in three parts in 2017.
Appearing on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Dorman opened up about the role and his initial hesitation to accept it.
“It wasn’t an instant yes by any means,” she said of accepting the role. “It had to be discussed. I asked friends, relatives, many actors for advice.”
Dorman originally lost the role to Charlie Hunnam, but he dropped out of the film at the last minute, so Dorman was asked to replace him.
The actor said he was relieved when he didn’t get the part “because I knew this guy was going to crash.”
“[Ο Χάναμ] maybe he felt the same… but suddenly there I was, but with much less time to make a decision. I joined the film five weeks before we started shooting,” he said.
Speaking about the film’s critical reception, he added: “I knew it would have all this baggage…that the reality would be that it would make a lot of money and the fans would love it and the critics would despise it.
That’s what happened with the books and that’s what we were making. We stayed true to the books and knew what that meant.”
