Oedipus the Tyrant, directed by Simos Kakala at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus
One of the leading ancient tragedies, “Oedipus the Tyrant” by Sophocles is presented at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus on August 25th and 26th, directed by Simos Kakalas with Yiannis Stankoglou in the title role. Oedipus is faced with his destiny, which he has been trying to escape from since he was born. The oracle received by his father, King of Thebes, Laius, is confirmed in the worst way. Oedipus unknowingly becomes a parricide, marries Jocasti’s mother and ascends the throne of Thebes himself. The tragic truth is soon revealed, confirming that man cannot escape his fate.

“Mallia Kouvaria”, the comedy by Nikolaos Laskaris presented this summer by DI.PE.THE. Roumelis, directed by Tassos Pyrgieris, makes the next stop of its tour, on Friday, August 25, at 9:00 p.m., at the “Alexis Minotis” Theatre, in Egaleo, Attica. Set in the Belle Époque era, the show transports us to another era of Athens, where people were manifesting their thirst for the “sweet life” just before the start of the Balkan Wars. What happens when a respectable married man has to leave for a secret business under the watchful eye of a jealous wife? What is the role of the secret fortune teller who reads hairs and discovers love desires? How do three best friends and their husbands get involved? And how is a tangle of misunderstandings unraveled through a series of hilarious episodes?
