Efforts to extinguish the front, which is also moving south towards the area of Lefkimi, are being carried out by ground and aerial firefighting forces, thus far stopping the progress of the fire towards the settlement
The decrease in the intensity of the windstheir north-easterly direction that brings them against the fire fronts and the continued-further expansion of the anti-fire zones, seem to have created a capable wall of defense and protection of the settlement of Dadia.
The efforts to extinguish the specific front which is also moving south in the direction of the area of Lefkimi, are carried out by ground and aerial firefighting forces, thus far stopping the fire’s progress towards the settlement.
At the same time there is a second front on which suppression efforts have been focused in order to prevent the fire from leaving the main road of Kotronia and heading towards Mikro Pyrina where there are nests of predators and reaching the area of Three Fountains. An ally here too is the northeast wind and its intensity, which according to weather forecasts will not exceed 3-4 Beaufort until tomorrow morning.
In the southern part of the county the largest front is located to the west, starts north of Aisymi and extends to the Prefecture of Rodopi in the area of Kassitera Sapa and essentially in the area of Mavropetra. Efforts are already being made to open a fire zone in the area of the Kirki mines in order to facilitate the firefighting work there. The second front in southern Evros is in the area of Trifyllio and Koila, in a triangle that also includes the stream of Itea. There, loaders from the Region and the Municipality in cooperation with the fire brigade are trying to limit it so that settlements are not threatened.
“Forestry services, forest workers and fire brigades managed to stop the wave of fire at the Three Faucets Wildlife Refuge for the time being as a huge fire protection zone has been created that protects it from the south side. Employees of the forestry office remain in the area with forest workers from the forestry cooperatives and they are monitoring the area with the assistance of two fire engines”, forester Alexandroupolis tells APE-MPE. George Pistolas.
It is noted that 295 firefighters with 85 vehicles, 16 groups of hikers and from the air four firefighting aircraft and two firefighting helicopters are still working on the fronts of the fire in Evros. In Dadia, after the departure of the force sent from Romania, 64 Czech firefighters with 6 fire trucks are participating in the extinguishing work today.
