After 15 years of “silence”, one of the most important landmarks of Athens, the outdoor theater of Lykavittos, returns to the city fully reformed, safe and upgraded by the Municipality of Athens, giving once again the possibility to the women of Athens, the Athenians, and also its visitors city ​​to climb the emblematic hill of the capital.
From September 15, the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus, which is a valuable and integral part of the memories of the residents of Athens, as it has been for decades an “oxygen” of culture and initiation into the new currents of music and theater, opens with an artistic program that aims to present each season a “fan” of high quality shows.
The theater on the city’s most beloved hill is now entering a new era, after it was claimed by the Municipality of Athens, which reconstructed it following the most modern European standards, always keeping as a basis the idea of ​​the pioneering architect Takis Zenetou. Together with the overall regeneration of the hill, the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus returns from the Municipality of Athens safe, and able to share strong emotions and unique experiences to once again emerge as a point of reference on the artistic map of Athens.
The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis stated: “The time has come to climb our beloved hill again. Our memories are awakened as in a few days the emblematic modern outdoor theater of the city opens its doors again and welcomes us, reformed. Its reconstruction was a very demanding project, but the result justifies our efforts. The program curated by the Athens Municipality Technopolis gives the opportunity to the oldest to remember the unique nights they lived in the theater of Lycabettus and to the youngest to build their own memories and experiences, on the most “magical balcony” of Athens”.
The new program of the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus with many different types of music is inspired by the panoramic view of the top of the hill that allows the gaze to reach all the way to the sea.
Inaugurating the new era of the theater, on Friday September 15, Stavros Xarchakos presents – after 45 whole years – an anthology of his invaluable work in the first big “Feast in Lycabettus”! In the tribute of the Municipality of Athens to the great composer, Manolis Mitsias, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Iro Saia, and Zacharias Karounis, as well as 12 more great musicians, participate.
With memories of their legendary concerts at the Lycabettus Theatre, Pyx Lax climb the hill that has always suited them on Saturday 16 and Thursday 21 September, for two nights full of timeless hits and, of course, plenty of nostalgia.
On Sunday, September 17, Constantinos Argyros’ successful “Elpida Tour” in Greece and Cyprus culminates at the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus, where the popular singer will be in front of the most magnificent view of “his Athens” for the first time, together with Andromachi, Playmen, Klavdia and Rack.
Founding member of the musical duo 2Cellos, the virtuoso and subversive cellist Hauser, visits the Lycabettus Municipal Theater for two nights, on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 September, as part of his “Rebel with a Cello” tour, having in the music his quiver a diverse, unexpected repertoire that surprises.
On Friday, September 22, just before the start of their big European tour, the Villagers of Ioannina City complete their series of concerts around the “Aquarius season” at the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus, with many guests on stage, while on Saturday, September 23 the “child of the night” Giorgos Mazonakis celebrates his “Dirty thirty” at the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus, in other words his 30 years of presence in the discography, with a big concert, while on Sunday September 24 Yannis Plutarchos follows, one of the most important folk performers of his generation, for a unique folk evening with George Kakosao and Katerina.
On Monday, September 25, Loukianos Kilaidonis “meets” again with his favorite theater, in a unique musical spectacle-dedication from the Municipality of Athens entitled “Thank you Loukiane”, with the participation of Themis Andreadis, Spyros Grammenos, Doros Demosthenous, Yasemi Kilaidoni, Maria Kilaidoni, Nadia Kontogeorgi, Panou Mouzouraki, Penny Baltatzi, Yannis Bezou, Alexandrou Bourdoumi, Manoli Famellou. The following evening, Tuesday, September 26, Michalis Hatzigiannis returns to the top of the hill, the scene of the most important concerts of his 24-year musical career, to take us on a journey again with his unique performances and his unsurpassed hits.
Yiannis Haroulis is also preparing a return to Lycabettus, who is giving the public a double date on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 September. Together with his musical company, he will close his summer tour in Greece with two landmark concerts at the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus, singing old favorites as well as newer songs and bridging both “yesterday” with “today” and tradition with modern music , while on Tuesday, October 3, the Melisses, with special guest Anastasia, set up the ideal closing summer party of the “Melisses forever” tour at the music peak of Athens, filling it with their inexhaustible energy.
“Burn the Script” closes “10 years of failures” and Lambros Fishfis, Dimitris Makalias and Zisis Roubos celebrate it on Saturday, October 7 with a stormy comedy show – classically without a script and rehearsals, but with plenty of interaction and improvisation.
Dimitra Galani and Martha Frintzila follow on Monday, October 9 on “On a wave of the South” for another exciting musical journey in traditional, artistic, rebetika and modern songs, as well as folk songs with the participation of Eleni Tsaligopoulou.
The finale of the first season of the new era of the Lycabettus Municipal Theater comes on Saturday, October 14, with an audio-visual extravaganza, where Beats Pliz will present his album, “Arte Povera”, live for the first time. Live orchestra, beatmaking, theatrical sets, video art and rap performances from some of the most popular rap artists in Greece come together in a pioneering way in a live demonstration of how the richness of symphonic music can be combined with the raw energy and raw directness of rap.

The Municipality of Athens, in parallel with the overall regeneration of the Lycabettus hill, invites us to visit the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus again, giving priority to the environment of the Hill.
Out of respect for the area and its residents, car access to the theater parking lot on the days and times of the events will only be allowed for people with disabilities, people over 60 years of age, and for getting on/off taxis.
