The Animasyros 2023 returns to Syros, from September 26 to October 1, for the 16th consecutive year, with a rich program of screenings, discussions and parallel events. One of the main pillars of the Festival is, once again, the educational workshops which this year draw inspiration from the central theme of the Festival “Animation and Ancient Greece”.

With the guidance of experienced trainers from Greece and abroad, children, teenagers, adults, the disabled and also our beloved “veterans” they bring Cycladic figurines to life, they become archaeologists, they deconstruct and bring to the present day ancient myths.

More specifically, the talented animator Remco Polman and the recognized producer Jantiene de Kroon (Netherlands) present the ‘Cutting up the Myths’ workshop for adults. For three mornings, the participants – people with or without animation experience – play, cut, compose and using the cut-out animation technique modernize and bring to life the ancient myths in their own way.

The educational program of Animasyros 2023 is planned to be particularly interesting, but also for the young friends of the Festival. In the two-day workshop “Unearthing Antiquity” with the presenter the animator Agesilao Robolathe children get to know the techniques of stop-motion and sand animation, they become archaeologists for a while and by giving life to the sand they reveal important archaeological finds of ancient Greece.

In the “Sands of Time” workshop for teenagers, together with the up-and-coming animator Nicolas Fattouh (Lebanon), participants wander into the world of animation for an unforgettable adventure. Drawing inspiration from the Odyssey and with sand as their main material, they explore Greek mythology, unleash their creativity and tell from their own eyes the journey of the legendary hero Odysseus.

Also, in the courtyard of the emblematic Apollo Theater of Ermoupolis, the special ceramics workshop “Exploring the mysteries of Cycladic pan shapes” will be held for families with children, in collaboration with the AMKE Chimaira Ceramics Workshopunder his guidance Manos Mastorakis.
