Spotify removes Neil Young’s song list after singer’s ultimatum

Spotify has announced that it will remove the list of Canadian-American singer-songwriter Neil Young.

The decision was announced after the ultimatum of the 76-year-old music legend, who asked Spotify officials to remove either his music or the podcast presented by comedian and TV presenter Joe Rogan.

“We want all the music and audio content in the world to be available to Spotify users. This entails a great responsibility to balance both the safety of the listeners and the freedom of the creators. We have implemented detailed content policies and removed more than 20,000 Covid-19-related podcast episodes since the pandemic began. “We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but we hope to welcome him back soon,” said a statement from Spotify published by the New York Times and the Hollywood Reporter.

In a letter to Spotify, which was briefly posted on his website, Yang accused the service of spreading “false information about vaccines that could kill those who believe the misinformation is being spread.”

The podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” is broadcast exclusively on Spotify and is one of the most popular programs in the world. Spotify has agreed to pay Rogan $ 100 million in 2020 for exclusive rights to his program. The presenter tested positive for Covid-19 last summer.

The move is expected to cost Neil Young about 60% of streaming revenue, according to THR.

The singer said that removing his music from Spotify would be “a huge loss for the record company” according to the post.

But he said he “could not continue to support Spotify’s life-threatening misinformation to the music-loving public.”

An average of 11 million people listen to each episode of Rogan’s podcast, who has repeatedly questioned the safety of Covid-19 vaccines.
