The tapes were recorded by Diana in the 1990s, during her conversations with her biographer Andrew Morton
Her tapes were released to the public for the first time Princess Diana in which he claims that King Charles said “disappointed” when he was born prince harry because he “wanted a girl”.
The tapes were recorded by Diana in the 1990s, during her conversations with her biographer Andrew Morton, who published the bestselling book Diana: Her True Story. Excerpts from the audio, which are to be featured in an upcoming documentary, have been released in the US.
Diana claims that Charles told her stepmother Raine Spencer at Prince Harry’s christening in 1984: “We are so disappointed, we wanted a girl.” In response, Countess Spencer “cut him off” and told him that “you have to understand that you are lucky to have a child”, Diana added.
The upcoming documentary is a follow-up to the 2017 production Diana: In Her Own Words. Tom Jennings, the producer of both documentaries, told the ABC: “When the first film came out, people were blown away, because they had never heard Diana speak like that before.” He added: “It’s a style of storytelling that’s very difficult to do, but I think it’s the closest thing to the truth, because there’s nothing stopping you. It is important as part of Diana’s legacy to let’s allow more of these tapes to be heard.”
Another passage reveals Diana’s hatred of her stepmother. She is heard saying: “I was so angry. I told her: ‘I hate you so much. If only you knew how much we all hated you for that that you did. You destroyed our house, you spent daddy’s money.” I said what I could and Raine said, “You have no idea how much pain your mother caused your father.” I said, “Pain, Rain? That’s a word you don’t even know how to relate to.” “In my job and in my role, I see people suffer like you’ve never seen before. And you call that pain?” I said, “you have a lot to learn.”
The princess recorded seven hours while still married to King Charles, who was then Prince of Wales. However, not all recordings were heard in the 2017 documentary. The new production is expected to go on air in early 2024.
