The dispute between two famous wives of British football stars will be made into a documentary by Disney+. In 2019, the Colin Rooney accused Rebecca Vardy that he leaked stories about her to the British tabloids.

The way she revealed her story earned her the nickname ‘Wagatha Christie’, derived from ‘WAG’ (a sexist acronym often used for the ‘wives and girlfriends’ of football stars) and the famous British mystery writer Agatha Christy.

Last year the case went to court when Vardy sued Rooney for defamation, claiming she was not behind the leaking of Rooney’s private life to the tabloids.

In July 2022, a judge ruled that Rooney had not defamed Vardy because Rooney’s accusation against Vardy was “substantially true”.

The case grabbed headlines in Britain and will now be the subject of a documentary series on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US. According to THR, the documentary will reveal “one of Britain’s biggest tabloid stories of the last decade,” how Coleen Rooney, wife of soccer star Wayne Rooney, became an amateur detective to uncover who was leaking private stories to the press.

The documentary ‘Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story’ premieres this fall on Hulu.
