The “machine God” Jefferson gave Karditsa the “thriller” with Colossus

In a dramatic match in the second half, Karditsa defeated Kolossos 75-73 in “Yiannis Bourousis” of the Thessalian city for the fourth matchday of the Stoiximan GBL and reached 2-1 with one game less, leaving the Rhodians at 1-3.

Carrasco’s players had a solid lead in the first half, but Jefferson took matters into his own hands in the second half and at key points, “turning” the game around in the last two minutes with an 8-0 run and in the last attack with a three-pointer gave the home team the victory.

He was the top scorer of his team with 18 points, having the offensive support of Madsen with 14 and Horchler with 12 points.

For the Rhodesians, Galvanini stood out with 18 and Koloveros with 16 points.

The match

With protagonists Akin and Kolovero and solutions from the periphery, Kolossos led by +5 and +6 at the start of the match. Madsen took the situation into his own hands and with a personal 4-0 streak reduced to -2, but Kamarianos and Barbits took action and brought +4 for the Rhodesians. With a personal run by Kamperidis, Karditsa took a +1 lead and Petropoulos finished at 17-18 in the first quarter.

Led by Goodwin, Colossus went on a 7-0 run to open the second quarter and took a 25-17 lead on Thessaly’s poor defense and rebounding supremacy. Afterwards, Kamarianos found the solutions and brought +9 for the “seamen”. Ellis dropped to -4, but Colossus with a 5-0 run reached +9. Jefferson with a personal run of 5-0 reduced to -4 and himself made the first half 34-38.

Galvanini with a personal 5-0 run brought +9 for Manuel Carrasco’s men at the start of the third period. The Rhodesians found the solutions inside the racket and maintained +6 to +8 in that period and Koloveros made it 41-51. With a 6-0 run, Karditsa went down 47-51. Karabela’s three-pointer made it 47-54 and there Horchler starred in a 9-0 run by Karditsa for 56-56 at the end of the quarter.

Diplaros made it 59-56 at the start of the fourth quarter, but Goodwin’s personal 6-0 run fueled his team’s 8-0 run for +5. Karditsa responded with a 5-0 run to tie the game, Kolossos responded with a 5-0 run for 64-69, but again Jefferson took matters into his own hands for a personal 8-0 run that brought it 72-69. Galvanini hit two of the four shots he was called for to make it 72-71 at 41” and Coloveros after a mistake made it 72-73 for the Islanders at 7”. On the next drive, Jefferson hit a 3-pointer for 75-73 in almost dead time and Goodwin missed the Rodites’ last shot.
