In the music video for the new single “Needs”, Tinashe and six friends make out in an empty supermarket. “We wanted it to have this playful, daring energy,” says the singer, as if the group had “crammed into this supermarket and had a kind of after-hours party.” The clip marks a shift in how Tinashe wants to be seen as she enters the era of the BB/ANG3L album. “I want it to feel like this album is whispering in your ear,” he confesses.
To the question whether the verse “Had a bonanza/Peaches, bananas” was the reason why he decided to shoot inside a supermarket, he replied: “There’s also a line about my body being a buffet. “I was thinking about places where we could shoot and I wanted it to be some sort of everyday space – I didn’t want it to be a studio or anything like that. I wanted it to be like real life, because a lot of this (new) period is actually about getting to know me and it feels like there’s an intimacy here. So I wanted it to feel like a familiar place, which everyone knows and which we constantly visit in our everyday life“, he added.
