Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher apologize after supporting Danny Masterson, convicted of rape

“We are aware of the pain we have caused by character attestation letters.” It was in this way that actors Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher began a video lasting just under a minute in which they apologized for having sent letters to the authorities in defense of actor Danny Masterson, sentenced to 30 years for two rapes. The artist couple worked with Masterson on “That ’70s Show.

“While I am aware that the trial found guilty on two counts of rape and the victims have a great desire for justice, I hope that my testimony about his character will be taken into account at sentencing. “I do not believe that he is a continuing harm to society”, said an excerpt from Kutcher’s letter, published by Variety.

Through social media, after a very negative repercussion, the actors reinforced that their intention was not to belittle the case or the victims.

“We support victims. We have done this historically through our work and we will continue to do so in the future,” Mila said. “Two months ago, Danny and his family came to us and asked us to write letters that represented the man we knew for 25 years,” she reinforced.

According to their report, the messages of support for their colleague were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the judge’s decision. “But for the judge to read, not to invalidate the victims’ testimony or retraumatize them. We would never do that. And we’re sorry if that’s what ended up happening,” Kutcher said.

Masterson’s crimes occurred between 2001 and 2003, and the victims were members of the Church of Scientology, just like him—but eventually left the Church after being discouraged from reporting the rapes to the police.
