Culture Minister Lina Mendonis expressed her congratulations to the Greek director Giorgos Lanthimos, on the occasion of winning the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice Film Festival for his film “Poor Things”, a hymn to women’s emancipation, starring Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo.

The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni states in her statement:

“In an hour of hard test for our country and the superhuman efforts of its people, Giorgos Lanthimos, at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, wins the Golden Lion, Mostra’s highest award, for his film Poor Things. It is a message of hope and uplifting for the Greece of effort and creation.
This is Lanthimos’ best film, according to those who were lucky enough to see it. The award comes to reward the chorus of laudatory critics he collected, but also to reward his original talent, his completely personal but widely recognizable, cinematic writing and, above all, a long, fruitful, upward path of creation.
Warm congratulations to George Lanthimos, his partners and the contributors of “Poor Things””
