Wesley Safadão explains the reason for his career break: ‘I’m mentally exhausted’

Wesley Safadão announced a week ago that he would take a break from his career and he has now told what led him to suspend his show schedule. The singer has anxiety disorder and, on medical recommendations, he stopped his professional commitments to take care of his health. “I’m exhausted. That’s the word, mentally exhausted. I didn’t know the right time to dose it, to slow down,” she said.

The forrozeiro acknowledged that his 20-year career and an average of between 20 and 25 shows per month contributed to his illness. “It’s been so many years, right? It’s been more than 20 years in this way. (…) I didn’t want to believe that I was having an anxiety attack. So, I was a ticking time bomb that was getting stressed easily over little things”, explained in an interview with Fantástico this Sunday (10).

Safadão also recalled that the first symptoms appeared in 2017, but it was only the following year that he realized he was sick on the way to a show in Minas Gerais: “I started to feel sick in the car. There was no air and I wanted to breathe and I couldn’t. I couldn’t feel my fingers.”

The singer mentioned that he has been taking medication and is also being monitored by doctors, in addition to therapies. “I preferred to put an end to it. I have to learn to respect myself”, he commented. Safadão warned that he won’t stop singing for a long time. “I’m not going to stop singing. I love being on stage and now it’s just a matter of balance,” he said.

On September 3, Wesley Safadão, through the team, issued a statement warning that he would take a career break to take care of his health.

“We inform you that singer Wesley Safadão will take a break from his concert schedule for an indefinite period of time. The artist has had health problems and will have to step away from the stage on medical advice. We ask for everyone’s understanding and thank you for the affection you have always shown towards Wesley. More information about the appointment schedule will be coming soon.”
