The eldest daughter of presenter Tadeu Schmidt, Valentina wanted to do journalism and even studied a few semesters, but she dropped out of Communication at the beginning of the year. She said she dropped out of the course after being a victim of homophobia and even prejudice because she was also the daughter of a journalist.
“Some teachers discouraged me. One of them, in particular, made a lot of homophobic comments about me and also offensive comments about my father. I thought, ‘I’m not going to be in an environment where I don’t feel welcome,'” said Valentina, who now is studying Performing Arts. “I don’t regret anything about this journey,” she emphasized.
Valentina also said that when she declared herself “queer” on LGBTQIA+ Pride Day, in 2021, she began to suffer from negative comments about her sexuality also in college.
“When I came out, it generated a huge uproar. I understood that, because of the visibility I gained for being my father’s daughter, this would end up blowing up. People said I did it to get attention. I did it because I was finally comfortable with myself “, he said in an interview with the newspaper ‘O Globo’.
She also recalled that she had already experienced the situation as a teenager. “I was bullied at school for a long time and I’ve dealt with all kinds of negative comments. If I could deal with it at such a complicated stage, then I’m not afraid now,” she warned.
Valentina then concluded. “There are comments attacking me almost every day. I get upset with what they write, yes, but I don’t let it get me down or affect the people I love,” she said.
