With a modest but touching ceremony in the event hall of the Vikela Municipal Library, the awarding of the “Nikos Kazantzakis” award of the Municipality of Heraklion to Lena Platonos took place on the evening of Wednesday, September 20.

The award was presented to the great creator by the mayor of Heraklion, Vassilis Lambrinos, who in his short greeting said, among other things:

“This year’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Award, which is part of the “Creative Music” thematic circle, is awarded to the composer Ms. Lena Platonos, a great creator, with a rich, original and multi-layered work, who has achieved a special place in the field of contemporary Greek Music ».

In addition, Mr. Lambrinos noted that “the awarding of the “Nikos Kazantzakis” Award to Mrs. Lena Platonos is a practical expression of “thank you” to her hometown for her overall creative career, and her long-term contribution to our culture.”

Lena Platonos, for her part, moved, after warmly thanking the mayor and the award committee for the honor, instead of a speech she preferred to close the ceremony with her new creation, especially for the occasion, which was heard for the first time and it was titled “My Heraklion”.

The ceremony was attended by the Bishop of Knossos Methodios, the president of the Heraklion Port Organization Yiannis Vardavas, the deputy mayors Stella Archontaki – Kalogeraki, Manolis Vassilakis, Rena Papadakis, Aristeas Pleuris, the municipal councilor Spyros Dokianakis, the president of the “Nikos Kazantzakis” Museum professor Michalis Taroudakis , members of the Award Committee, musicians, associates and friends of Mrs. Platonos et al.
