Two months after her death aged 56, Sinead O’Connor’s unreleased song ‘The Magdalene Song’ “dressed” the final episode of the BBC series “The Woman in the Wall”.

Joe Murtagh’s psychological thriller, starring Ruth Wilson, tells the tragic story of Lorna, who was sent pregnant at the age of 15 to one of the “Magdalen Asylums”, institutions that operated in Ireland and “hosted” single mothers, victims of sexual abuse, women with disabilities, orphans and illegitimate children. It is noted that Sinead O’Connor at the age of 15 was also sent to a similar institution for 18 months due to delinquent behavior.

The first half of the song is completely heartbreaking and the second half is sheer provocation»Northern Irish musician and composer David Holmes, who has also produced O’Connor in recent years, told the Guardian.

It’s incredible how the meaning of the song combined with this story. It was just meant to be. There is a certain magic when you bring music to an emotional story“, he added.

Daryl McCormack, Francis Tomelty and Simon Delaney round out the star cast.

The six-episode series premiered in the UK at the end of August. It received rave reviews for both Wilson’s unique performance and the way it told one of the darkest chapters in Irish history. According to People it will make its US debut on Paramount+ on November 1st.
