“One of the most influential architects of the last fifty years, Calatrava is a leading figure in an architecture that respects the forces that pervade his constructions, which he sometimes captures with demanding solutions in terms of form,” reads the award announcement. “The Spanish architect has implemented bridges, infrastructures, conference and exhibition centers during a career adorned with great successes, not only as an architect but also as an artist able to express himself through different artistic fields, including painting and sculpture,” the statement underlines. of the Florence Art and Design Biennale.
