“The Concert Hall listens”: Listening to musicians at the Concert Hall

Greek and foreign musicians from all over Greece and abroad have the opportunity to present their work, either in person at the Athens Concert Hall or online, with a deadline for applications on February 14, in the initiative “Open Platforms-Auditions: The Concert Hall” listens”.

The General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy, as it emphasizes in its announcement, supports the initiative “Open Platforms-Auditions: The Megaron listens”, and announces that in the context of the Athens Concert Hall’s collaboration with the Hellenic Music Association (EDEM) and foreign musicians from all over Greece and abroad, but also foreign musicians based in Greece, can present their work in the initiative “Open Platforms – Auditions: The Palace listens”.

The physical and online auditions can be attended by vocal or organic groups consisting of at least three people, it is noted and clarified that in terms of physical auditions the maximum number of participants is sixteen, while in the online audiences there is no limit. It is added that in special cases foreign musicians who are established and are artistically active in Greece can also take part.

As for the evaluation criteria, as it is pointed out, special emphasis is given to innovation, authenticity, technical and interpretive perfection, the orchestration, the originality of the arrangement, where required, and the creative connection of music and text, as far as the songs are concerned. Greek or any other language can be used in the vocal works.

In the first phase, creators and performers are given a step and their work is heard in the auditions. In the second phase, the artists are projected to the music-loving public and gain access to a wide network of musical activities (concerts, recordings, promotion on social media, etc.).

The artistic evaluation committee consists of:

  • Giannis Vakareli, Artistic Director of the Athens Concert Hall
  • Dimitra Galani, performer-composer, member of EDEM
  • Stavros Lantsia, pianist-composer, member of the Board of Directors of EDEM
  • Dimitris Maragopoulos, composer, head of the Bridges Series

In previous years, as part of the “Open Platforms” initiative, bands were selected through auditions, which later appeared at the Athens Concert Hall, such as After8, Athens Tango Ensemble, Caja Secreta, Choir on the Stairs, Dretta, Guitar-4tune, Fle[x] String Ensemble, Fonès – Marina Satti, Manouchodrome, Maracatu, Polis Ensemble, The Music Virus Band, De sol à sol Band etc.
