The elimination speech of Tadeu Schmidt, 47, in the early hours of this Wednesday (2) left the public and the participants of BBB 22 (Globo) somewhat surprised. That’s because for the first time in the show’s history, the presenter communicated in pounds.
Seconds before announcing that he was eliminated from the wall, Schmidt addressed Jessilane and said that she and Natália would stay on the program, explains Jorge Suede, 26, President of the São Paulo Association of the Deaf (ASSP) and an activist in favor of sign language. “I was in the middle of a serious conversation with a friend of mine and out of nowhere I see Tadeu talking in pounds, I freaked out! It was very beautiful”, he says.
“After talking to my deaf friends, we came to the conclusion that he meant: ‘Teacher, women stay, women stay, you stay.’
Even though the message was brief, Suede believes that the moment was very important to bring sign language visibility. “In Brazil it is only recognized as a means of communication and not as an official language”, she says.
Jorge Suede also comments that the participation of Jessilane, a biology teacher and activist for community inclusion, is recognized by all. “She fights so that her deaf students can understand and feel included”, she praises.
With nervousness taking over, Jessilane said that at the time she thought she would be eliminated. The biology teacher was the least voted with 25.45%. Natalia won 26.1% of the votes and Rodrigo left with 48.45%.
“I was so afraid that I was doing everything wrong. It was a message for me,” Jessilane said to fellow confinement colleagues, still ecstatic with Tadeu Schmidt’s attitude.
The internet also praised the presenter. “Tadeu perfect, I cried with the part where he spoke in Libras with Jessi, I fell apart, the best hit of this edition was the presenter, human, direct and charismatic”, opined a viewer on Twitter.
“We think it’s amazing that Tadeu made the final speech in pounds. He’s rocking a lot”, wrote the administrator of Linn da Quebrada’s profile on the social network. Check out the reactions:
