Although designed with die-hard Pink Floyd fans in mind, the turntable aims to appeal to all vinyl lovers
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dark Side of the MoonThe company Pro-Ject Audio Systems created a turntable that pays homage to their eighth studio album Pink Floyd. For those who remember the release of Dark Side of the Moon, it was a turning point in music history.
The album received worldwide recognition, not only for its music, but also for the famous vinyl cover, where, through a prism, white light is broken into a spectrum of colors.
Although designed with die-hard Pink Floyd fans in mind, the turntable aims to appeal to all vinyl lovers. The limited-edition edition is added to the company’s Artist Series collection to commemorate this milestone.
What makes the turntable stand out is its ability to recreate the iconic image at the touch of a button: as any record spins on the deck, a rainbow of LED colors on the back of the turntable adds a visual element reminiscent of the artwork in the cover of the album released on March 1, 1973. The “rainbow” is a direct reference to the cover design by Storm Thorgerson and the prismatic image of George Hardie.
Design details such as the triangular case and elongated arm echo elements from the original image. The turntable offers flexibility, allowing users to play both 33 and 45 rpm records, while maintaining stability due to its not inconsiderable weight of six kilograms.
