A Flamengo idol and out of football since the end of last year, Diego Ribas, 38, decided to become a communicator. His contract as a Globo commentator is different from others so that he has freedom to use its networks. And with his first projects, he achieved great success.
The main launch was the podcast 10 e Faixa, where he talks to personalities — but not just from sports. The first season got 4 million views, and attracted 391 thousand subscribers, a good number for a new project.
To the F5Diego Ribas explains why he decided to go this route and not work directly on the field and ball after his retirement.
“I always heard from people that I expressed myself well, I communicated well. I always liked that, that’s why I had the intention. I thought about how to build this skill to my advantage, that’s why I got into lectures, podcasts and TV commentary. I believe that one project complements the other”, he stated.
Diego credits his podcast’s good numbers to the guests in the first season. Names from different areas were interviewed, and not just football. People like Zico, Gabigol, Renata Silveira, João Branco, businessman Rony Meisler, influencer Renê Silva and chef Felipe Bronze. A second wave of episodes is already in preparation.
“The first season was a success, mainly because I had the opportunity to talk to so many special people, learn from them. It was very challenging, but being face to face with giant people is a huge privilege. I prepared a lot for this, and I I felt really good. The second season will be released soon, again with special people”, he says.
Diego does not deny that starting his career outside the fields at Globo helped. As soon as he retired, the former midfielder was hired by the broadcaster to comment on games at the World Cup in Qatar. His performance was so praised that the broadcaster made proposals and Diego commented on Brasileirão and Libertadores da América matches.
“Participating during the World Cup on Globo was a fantastic experience, it couldn’t have been a better debut. I’ve already started this journey by participating in the main sporting competition on the planet, connecting with millions of people”, he comments.
“Aware of this responsibility, I went very deep into research and studies of each team present in the games in which I participated, learning that I took to all the matches in which I work today and also to the episodes of 10 e Faixa”, he explains.
For the new interviews, Diego is already targeting guests who want to talk. He tries to bring presenters from Globo and Mano Brown, from Racionais MCs.
“I have many names that I want to chat with and receive on the podcast. Ronaldo Fenômeno, Mano Brown, Marcos Mion… These are some giants with whom I want to exchange ideas, learn from them, and show how they think and act facing life’s challenges”, he added.
