The design “converses” with the landscape, the meandering path of whiskey creation…
First images of its planned new whiskey distillery headquarters Blue Run Spirits in Georgetown has been announced by the internationally known architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The architectural design, with branding “Meander”aims to evoke the journey of the limestone-rich waters of the Kentucky town’s Royal Spring as they meander through the refining, aging and blending processes to become Blue Run bourbon and whiskey.
Work on the 3,250 sq m refinery and 1,858 sq m warehouse where the barrels are placed for aging begins this year at Lanes Run Business Park; they are expected to be fully operational in 2025.
“For Blue Run, we’ve condensed the entire whiskey-making process into a single linear continuum – from distillation to maturation to bottling. The half-mile course meanders between gentle hillsides creating bends and slopes, coves and viewpoints. A single roof of solar panels twists and turns to maintain optimal orientation despite the activities below demanding grandeur or intimacy. In the same way that Royal Spring is formed by how the water flows in its bed, Blue Run Distillery is formed by the flow of whiskey and the processes and people that give birth to it,” said Bjarke Ingels, founder and creative director of the agency.
“Tdesign is at the heart of everything we do at Blue Run, from our drink to our bottle to our new distilleryMike Montgomery, CEO and co-founder of Blue Run Spirits, emphasized. “The design developed by BIG speaks to the landscape, the meandering path of whiskey creation and a manifestation of the bold, distinctive and alluring ethos that marks Blue Run Spirits“, he added.
