Why not diet if you are not psychologically prepared?

On the occasion of the beginning of the new year, all of us, without exception, set new goals and seek new beginnings. And this is not a bad thing at all.

Many times, though, these goals are not what we really want.

If I ask you how many times at the beginning of each new year you said: “I will start dieting and exercising” I am sure of the answer. Almost every year. Have you ever wondered why every year you promise yourself the same things and every year it does not change?

The answer may vary. Maybe it’s not your priority right now. You may not feel psychologically ready and relaxed to start. Maybe again, this is not something you really want right now.

Every year, various express / detox diets flood the internet, especially after the holidays and the start of the new year, promising miracles and putting you in the game to follow them.

So, even if you try to follow such a diet and exercise, and it succeeds even temporarily, after a while, your performance drops, the fatigue of the day overwhelms you and you finally give up your effort.

Do not wonder why. The answer is simple. You may not be ready for it now. And that’s ok. Do not follow the so-called “New Year’s Resolutions” without asking yourself what you really need.

I would advise you to search and find what you really want for this year. A diet that starts obsessively, simply to “lose the pounds of the holidays” is doomed to fail.

Such a diet will create stress, pressure, deprivation, hunger but most of all it will not reach your goal.

If you are not psychologically ready to follow a diet plan, it might be a good idea not to follow it and I give you some reasons:

It will not succeed.
It will make you tired.
You will be disappointed with yourself.
You will blame yourself for not trying hard enough.
You will move away from the new goals you set.
You will enter the “vicious circle of the diet”, constantly doing deprivation diets without result, again from the beginning.
If you need a change, then start this year differently. Try to see if following a diet and including exercise in your life is what you want. It does not make sense to follow it because you read it in the list of “to do” of the year. Not because celebrities follow it. You are not them, and they are not you.

If these are your goals, then there is no need to be pressured and deprived. If not, it does not matter. Nobody said that it is forbidden to start diet in the middle of the week and not from Monday.

So, what I need to remind you of at the beginning of the new year is one thing: To love and listen to yourself!

Diet, exercise and self-care are a way of life. They do not change in one day, they want constant effort and work, but in the end they compensate you. If, in order to lose the weight of the holidays, you are deprived of your peace of mind, it may not be worth it in the end.
