Extending the activities and research started in the laboratory “Ancient Future Solo”, which took place in the framework of “Open Plan 2021”, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival calls again this year adolescents 14 – 17 years old to study it ancient drama through his prism modern dance and discover their own kinetic language.
The protagonist this time is dance of ancient drama. Specifically, this year’s workshop, which will take place at Piraeus 260 (Room B ‘), will focus on the dance by Aristophanes’ “Ornithes”, a work familiar to children, as it is included in the material of DG High School.
In the laboratory of Ancient Future Chorus, the choreographer Marianna Kavallieratouthe musician Dimitra Trypani and the playwright Paraskevi Tektonidou meet with 20 teenagers and experiment with movement, body, space and sound, asking questions such as:
“What exactly is Dance in ancient drama?” What functions does it perform and how can it become an occasion for a contemporary dance project? What has Aristophanes’ Dance of the “Birds” got to do with the corps de ballet of a romantic ballet, Merce Cunningham’s birds or flocks of birds in nature? How do we gradually become a team as we prepare a choreographic work? What does “team” mean? And yet, what connects us to the past? With what supplies do we process the present as we move towards the future?
Participation in all Open Plan actions of the Festival is free. The Open Plan program is subsidized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
The Athens Epidaurus Festival has provided that all the necessary safety measures for COVID-19 are observed during the conduct of the laboratory. In case of emergency measures, the meeting schedule is specially designed to take place online.
