In a very popular summer destination of the 80s and 90s, Artemis, we are guided by “Neighbourhoods on a plate” on Sunday 5 November at 16.40.

It is one of the largest, in terms of population, areas of eastern Attica which is rapidly transforming from a holiday district into a place of permanent residence for many people.

The tour of Artemida starts from the “Bakery” or as they used to call it, the Pastry Shop!

An old, family wood oven has been in the same place for 43 years and has now passed into the hands of Ioanna who continues the tradition, under the watchful eye of her mother.

Next is the known to residents and non-residents “Vangelis”. For many years in the area of Loutsa there were very few shops for food and most of them were canteens. This is how Vangelis started, as one of the oldest canteens in the area that was then located on the mountain until he made the decision to go down to the city.

Next stop at the Nissaki Surf Club, a shop that for years was known only to surfers in the area, but eventually its location and excellent cuisine made it known around the world.

Last stop of the day, one of the most famous shops of Loutsa, the ouzorie, the widow’s fish tavern. In a secluded corner of the beach, Khira started as a canteen for sandwiches, moved to the triptych of sardine, salad, fried potato and is now one of the best fish restaurants in the area.

The return to the studio brings two more delicious recipes from Dimitris Skarmoutsos: noodles with beef and mushrooms and sea bass with warm black-eyed salad.
