To the Japanese painter Katsushika Hokusai Swiss watchmaking paid tribute Jaeger-LeCoultre reproducing a miniature version of two of his woodcuts on the back of the new reversible double-faced Reverso watches.

The woodcuts “Ono Falls on Kisokaido Road” and “The waterfall where Yoshitsune watered his horse at Yoshino in Yamato Province” they appear as treasures hidden in the caseback of double-sided watches, through their enamel reproduction by Jaeger-LeCoultre craftsmen.

To realize the project, they applied at least 14 layers of enamel, each treated at 800 degrees Celsius before the next was applied, which means a total of 80 hours of work were required.

It was not easy to reproduce Hokusai’s original colors nor to reproduce every detail in the approximately one to ten scale of the original. The enameller even managed to capture the inscriptions near the upper left of each work as he hand-wrote the captions from the original woodcuts. Each series of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai watches consists of only ten pieces.
