The “green” light for the start of the projects to implement the reconstruction, modernization and expansion of the facilities of the “The Train on the Roof” Theater on behalf of the Company “GAIOSE S.A.”, with funding from the Region of Attica in the amount of 1 million euros, was given after the signing of the relevant programming contract by the Regional Governor of Attica G. Patoulis and the Managing Director of GAIAOSE S.A. I. Dunia.
The Train – Theater the Train on the Roof is currently housed in 8 stationary wagons on rails within the area leased by GAIAOSE of 5,600 sq.m., with access from the existing platform of the railway station within the premises of the OSE, in the Roof area of the Municipality of Moschatos-Tavros.
The Theater Wagon is a rebuilt Italian coach of his 1950 arranged in an elegant, fully equipped, theater stage, where theatrical and musical performances, lectures, etc. are presented. It has a train movement simulation mechanism, which gives an even more realistic feel to the “theatrical journeys”.
Next door Orient Express Musical Carriagethe museum-preserved carriage of the legendary Orient Express, only 33 spectators have the opportunity to live a unique experience: original musical performances with drink and food, visual performances and themed dinners.
The Wagon – Bar is an old, wooden, boxcar, which in World War 2 carried “8 horses and 20 men”. It now operates as a bar until late at night with music, DJs, drinks and light food. It also often hosts site-specific performances.
The projects include the addition of an additional eight historic carriages, as well as three additional pre-fab support huts, on the opposite side of the access dock.
The purpose of the project is the promotion of modern Greek Culture in Greece and abroad, through the strengthening of the relevant cultural infrastructures, the promotion of new artistic forces of our country and the implementation of pioneering and innovative ideas in the field of performing arts.
“The Train – Theater The Train on the Roof” functions as a model cultural railway multi-space. With this Program Contract, the Region undertakes the tendering, financing and supervision of the project on behalf of GAIAOSE and lays the foundations for the repair and renovation of the area of the Train facilities in Ruf. The project is part of a wider strategy to highlight the history of the railway, contributing at the same time to the local development of the historical area of Ruf by offering an upgraded cultural railway space unique in its kind” said Ioanna Dounia.
