Dynamic opening at the Athens Concert Hall, in 2024, with the cycle “Great Performers” and the recital of the multi-awarded piano virtuoso Cyprien Katsaris (13/1/2024). They are followed on 11/2/2024 by two renowned French musicians: the violinist Renaud Capyson and the pianist Guillaume Bellom.
In the first quarter of 2024, leading performers collaborate with renowned orchestras, conducted by renowned conductors, as part of the cycle “Great Orchestras – Great Soloists”. On 25/1/2024, the distinguished chief musician and pianist Sir Andras Schiff appears at Megaro with Cappella Andrea Barca, the ensemble he founded in 1999, while in February (23/2/2024) the Greek-born American conductor Karina Kanellakis conducts the historic London Philharmonic Orchestra with German virtuoso violinist Christian Tetzlaff as soloist. They are succeeded on 12 and 13/3/2024 by the famous Philharmonic Orchestra of the French Radio which, under the Finnish Mikko Frank, will present two different programs, collaborating with two excellent musicians with an important international career: the pianist Jean-Yves Thimbode (12/ 3/2024) and the violinist Wilde Frank (12/3/2024).
Next March (28/3/24), the Camerata – Orchestra of the Friends of Music, under the direction of Giorgos Petros, will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s First and Seventh symphonies on period instruments.
As in the previous season, on the last weekend of January (27 and 28/1/2024) the Megaro hosts the two-day Piano Days, the great celebration of the piano, which gives young and old the opportunity to attend classical and jazz concerts influences, activities for children and recitals by up-and-coming musicians. For the first time in Greece, the public will have the opportunity to see the “Steinway SPIRIO | r”, a technological marvel from the leading piano manufacturer in the world. This year’s event features, among others, the soloists Stefano Bollani, Christos Papageorgiou and Anastasios Pappas, the piano duo Ferhan and Ferzan Ender and the master percussionist Dimitris Desyllas. Also, on the first night of the two-day event, the musical show “Chaplin Pianissimo” will be staged at the Megaro, in which Eugene Chaplin, son of the great comedian Charlie Chaplin, tells the story of his father’s life, flanked by two distinguished pianists. Also, in the framework of Piano Days, the eminent academic Stathis Kalivas presents a new cycle of discussions on the subject of innovation.
In February (1/2/2024), the musical spectacle “Persephone” written by the well-known composer Dimitris Maragopoulos, who characterizes his new creation as “a journey to the frontiers of the new opera, the cinematic opera” will premiere in the Alexandra Trianti Hall and the theater”. The play was directed by Elli Papakonstantinou (concept – libretto).
With a jazzy mood, Christoforos Stamboglis returns to Megaro on 14/2/2024. The famous Greek deep-voiced singer puts aside the big operatic roles for a while and celebrates Valentine’s Day with us by performing some of the most beautiful songs of the great Cole Porter. The National Symphony Orchestra of ERT is conducted by the renowned chief musician Miltos Logiadis.
From the artistic programming of January – March 2024, the “Rising Stars” two-day event held in collaboration with the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO) also stands out. On 9 and 10/3/2024, the Greek public will have the opportunity to meet gifted young artists with an impressive international career: bassoonist Matis Stir (9/3/2024), the Sonoro Quartet (9/3/2024), acoustic and electric guitar soloist Sean Sibe (10/3/2024) and organist Sebastian Heidl (10/3/2024).
