Travis Scott says he didn’t know about the tragedy during his Astroworld show

Travis Scott, 30, says he was unaware of a tragedy that was unfolding during the stage show at Astroworld in Houston, Texas (USA) last Friday (5). Eight people died and 25 were hospitalized in the riot during the show.

Sources linked to the rapper told TMZ that he was never informed at the festival about the dead and injured people. According to sources, Travis did not know the gravity of the situation when he arrived at the after-show party and this remains consistent with the fact that no one, including the police, has publicly confirmed the seriousness of the events that took place there.

Drake, who threw the party and performed with Travis as a surprise guest on the show, also had no idea there were people dying in the crowd. According to TMZ, there were several people begging camera operators and others to stop the show.

Although Travis was at least 50 meters from the camera operator, sources said he did not hear calls to end the show because fans were dying. But when he learned of the tragedy he immediately left the party.

According to law enforcement authorities, the episode was triggered after fans started pushing each other towards the stage. After about 30 minutes, confusion escalated and what Houston Police Chief Executive Larry Satterwhite called a “mass incident” ensued.

“All of a sudden, we had a lot of people on the floor going through some kind of medical episode,” he said. “It happened all at once, in a matter of minutes.”

The fire department took 25 people to hospitals in the region, 11 of which had cardiac arrest. Local police chief Troy Finner said one of the lines that will be investigated is that one person in the audience could be drugging others with a syringe.

According to him, a security guard felt a sting in the neck while trying to contain a confusion and fell unconscious. Doctors, who revived him using an opioid antagonist drug, noticed a mark, similar to what a syringe would leave, on the agent’s neck.

Others in the crowd would also have fainted unconsciously during the performance.

After the tragedy, Travis said he will bear the funeral costs of the victims who died in his show. He will also team up with a company to provide mental health services to those in need.
