Alcoholism is something we do not often see in the movies and on television, and if we happen to see it, it will definitely be in the wrong light. A bright exception for this is the new series Single Drunk Female, which tells the story of 28-year-old Samantha towards sobriety.
In Single Drunk Female, Samantha after multiple breakdowns is called to press ‘restart’ in her life
Learning her story, we understand that alcoholism is something that cost Samantha her friendships, her relationship, but also her job. Among what we learn is that because of alcohol she has attacked her boss and caused a car accident. Unemployed and under judicial supervision, she returns to her mother’s house and her children’s room. This is where her attempt to get rid of alcohol begins. However, what is happening around her does not seem to leave her.
Sam needs to learn again to be a daughter, a friend and an adult, without the help of alcohol. This leads her to many philosophical quests and discussions, but always with a lot of humor and self-sarcasm. Her maturity knocks on the door, as do the obligations and expectations of others towards her.
The series describes a global experience of detoxification, detoxification and rehabilitation
Yes, no experience is the same as another. However, watching Sam be exhausted 24/7, there is a small identification. Pretty much, for the last two years, we have all been called to unhook ourselves from situations in which we were immersed and to press for a solid restart. For some it may have been as serious as alcohol, while for others it may have been toxic relationships or toxic work environments. Either way, Single Drunk Female manages to tell a universal story.
This is also due to the fact that the screenwriter of the series was addicted to alcohol. Today, she has managed to be sober for 7 years and it is her experience that led her to write Sam’s story. It may be a dark topic with many parameters, but Single Drunk Female remains a story of hope, which has its ups and downs.
