Mitski to compose score for upcoming theatrical adaptation of ‘Queen’s Gambit’ series
Singer-songwriter Mitski has accepted an offer to write the score for an upcoming stage adaptation of the ‘Queen’s Gambit’ series.
Mitski will write the score for a musical based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel, which follows the journey of chess genius Beth Harmon during the Cold War era.
The novel was adapted into a hit Netflix miniseries in 2020, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as orphan Harmon, who quickly rises through the ranks of the male-dominated competitive chess scene, and plans for a theatrical production have been announced next year.
As composer Mitski joins a team led by playwright Ebony Booth and director Whitney White.
Before [η εταιρεία παραγωγής] Level Forward brought up the idea of doing a musical for the “Queen’s Gambit” series, I was a fan of it and an even bigger fan of the novel. So I was already determined to be a part of this team,” Mitski, who was born in Japan to an American father and Japanese mother, told Deadline.
