Melissa Barrera addresses the comments that got her fired from the “Scream 7”. “First of all, I condemn anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hatred and prejudice of any kind, against any group of people,” the 33-year-old actress told her followers in a statement she shared via her Instagram Story.

As a Latina, a proud Mexican, I feel a responsibility to have a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and so I’ve tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and lend my voice to those in need».

Barrera went on to say that “every person on this earth – regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status – deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom».

The actress stated that she prays “day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence and for peaceful coexistence».

Despite her removal from the film, she vowed that “will continue to speak up for those who need it most and will continue to defend peace and security, human rights and freedom».

She concluded her post: “Silence is not an option for me.”

A spokesperson for Spyglass, the company behind the film franchise, issued a statement saying:Spyglass’ position is crystal clear: We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or incitement to hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, distortions of the Holocaust or anything that blatantly crosses the lines of hate speech».
