SYRIZA speaks of “the first split in the history of the Left outside of political bodies, outside of party processes” in the first reaction after the withdrawal of the Ahtsioglu group from the party.

In the announcement it is emphasized that the departure of the nine takes place “without a political dispute and without substantial disagreement”, while it speaks of “contempt for the popular mandate”.

Full announcement:

“It is difficult to respond to the first split in the history of the Left and the progressive space that takes place outside political bodies, outside party processes, without political dispute and without substantial disagreement.

As it seems, the only “disagreement” of those who left today the party with which they were elected on a list in June 2023, is the result of the internal party elections for the selection of President and their refusal to accept the democratic verdict of the tens of thousands of SYRIZA members- PS.

The question remains unanswered as to what are the reasons and pursuits that led to their disregard of the popular mandate.

History will judge.

The leftist and progressive citizens chose SYRIZA-PS to be the Official Opposition in Parliament, the strong voice in society, in the battles fought to overthrow the right-wing and anti-popular policies of the ND-Mitsotakis government.

SYRIZA-PS, closer to society, more united, stronger, with the legacy of Alexis Tsipras, will once again express the great majority of our people, in spite of those who have been on strike for years now, a controlled bipartisanship with or without crutches”.
