The actress was fired from ‘Scream’ due to her political views
Melissa Barrera was fired from the production of the film “Scream 7” after taking a stand on social media in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war.
Spyglass, the film’s production company, was “brutal” in its announcement, according to international media reports. “Spyglass’ position is clear: We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech.”

For his part, the director of the film, Christopher Landon, stated on social media that he did not decide on the firing of Melissa Barrera. “Everything is bad. It was not my decision,” he clarified.
Following this, a group – of over 1,300 actors – sent a signed letter to all Art and Culture bodies, asking that pro-Palestinian “voices” not be suppressed and silenced.
“We write as artists and cultural workers, united in our commitment to justice, dignity, freedom and equality for all people in Israel/Palestine. We value every life and mourn every death. The scale of violence unfolding in Gaza demands our collective attention and action.”

It is worth noting that the message is signed by, among others, Olivia Colman (“The Crown”), Juliet Stevenson (“Emma”) and Harriet Walter (“Ted Lasso”).
In addition to censorship, the actors also state in their letter: “As artists, we cannot remain silent in the face of such flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.”
Finally, they took issue with UK arts organizations for their failure so far to show solidarity with the Palestinian people: “As the disaster unfolds, we have noticed a glaring absence of statements of solidarity with the Palestinian people from the majority of UK arts organisations.”

On her Instagram stories, Barrera showed her support for Palestine a few weeks ago with the following message: “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp.
All crammed in, with nowhere to go, no electricity or water…people are still silently watching it happen. This is genocide.”
