I felt an energy coming from him, says Gabriel Leone, the Ayrton Senna of the series that premieres in 2024

The confidentiality contract with Netflix does not allow Gabriel Leone to make many comments about the series “Senna”. Even with the cast practically all chosen (Alice Wegmann, Gabriel Louchard, Hugo Bonemer, Julia Foti, Marco Ricca, Pâmela Tomé, among others) and scenes already recorded in São Paulo, Uruguay and Argentina, the actor, who plays the pilot Ayrton Senna tries to hold back from talking too much. “I can say that it has been one of the greatest emotions of my life.”

Gabriel was one year old when Senna died, in May 1994. He didn’t see the Formula 1 driver on the tracks, but he grew up listening to stories told by his family, who idolized the three-time world champion (1988, 1990 and 1991).

“Even without having accompanied him on the tracks, I had a real appreciation of his size, of what he represented and represents for the Brazilian people. It’s a huge responsibility to tell the story of such a special person,” he said.

Gabriel also talks about the blessing of the driver’s family and the strength he received from the people who followed Senna’s journey. “We all became very close and connected with his achievements and energy,” says Leone. “I felt that energy coming from him too. For sure.”

The Senna series, which should premiere at the end of 2024, will have six episodes and will tell the Brazilian driver’s trajectory, in addition to his personal relationships. The production begins with Ayrton Senna’s move to England, precisely when he began his racing career, and continues until his tragic death, in an accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino GP.

Leone still has other projects to be released next year. He is negotiating a return to soap operas, in “Mania de Você”, by João Emanuel Carneiro — the last one was “Um Lugar ao Sol” (2021). Also coming is the third and final season of the series “Dom” and the films “Ferrari” and “Barba Ensopada de Sangue”, an adaptation of the book by Daniel Galera. “I’m having a wonderful time, God grant it continues like this,” he says.
