Three months have passed since the day of utter destruction. Since the storms Daniel and Elias passed through Magnesia and leveled it, leaving behind several people without shelter and millions of euros in damage to infrastructure, property and homes.
In addition to the bureaucracy and the struggle to rebuild their lives from scratch, flood victims have another headache. The astute looters who “break into” their deserted houses in order to loot them and take from them whatever they find useful.
Ms. Anastasia, speaking at TheNewspaper.gr she declares outraged and disappointed. The damage to her home is incalculable. Both she and her elderly mother have been forced to leave it and are temporarily housed in a structure of the Municipality of Volos.
But their residence with the things left in it has been the victim of minutes at least four times. They break down the door, enter and take whatever they can find useful. From small value jewellery, crockery, clothes and detergents.
“I do not know what to do. Every time I come home things are missing. I had to put a chain with a padlock to prevent the perpetrators from entering. We lived here for so many years. And now we have lost our home and we have them playing with our pain and taking our few possessions. How long shall we endure?’ he says characteristically.
