Almost twenty years after the finale of the iconic series from the late 90’s “The Witches”, one of the main characters, Holly Marie Combs, reveals that her co-star Alyssa Milano demanded the firing of “big sister Halliwell”, aka Shannen Doherty.

Speaking on Doherty’s “Let’s Be Clear” podcast, she described the backstory set up during production sometime in the early 2000s that resulted in Prue the Witch “losing her life to a demon attack” at the end of season three and her role essentially being replaced by the arrival of the fourth, long-lost, little sister, Paige.

In fact, she describes her meeting with the producer of the series, Jonathan Levin, in which she tried to understand why her co-star was “distracted” from the series.

“We didn’t want this to happen, but we found ourselves backed into a corner. We were essentially in this position where it would have to be one or the other,” explained Cobbs.

As he described, in fact Milano had given an ultimatum that both of them could not fit in the cast and threatened to file lawsuits for workplace bullying.

Combs seemingly hinted that Milano had allegedly created a rumor against both her and Doherty and was even allegedly “documenting every moment he felt uncomfortable on set.”

Combs – who starred on the show for all eight seasons from 1998 to 2006 – admitted she found Milano’s claims puzzling as she couldn’t recall any “harsh words” being exchanged or fights happening in public.

He added that any animosity between the three was very controlled and was never noticed by the rest of the cast or the technicians.

“There really are people who behave badly and never pay for it,” the actress continued.

“I don’t think people understand that this never happened here.”

At the time, Combs, now 50, was ready to leave the series, making it clear to the producer that she would not continue without Doherty, who at the time publicly stated that she had left the show.

“I didn’t want to be in this series without Shanen. And she didn’t want to do it without me. And that was pretty clear,” explains Combs, who revealed that the producer responded to her own ultimatum with something “that felt like blackmail,” as he threatened to sue her if she ultimately decided to quit.

Doherty, describing things from her own perspective, said she still can’t figure out what didn’t work in this partnership.

She added that the dismissal was something that cost her a lot and in a somewhat strange period of her career.

“A year later, I was trying to actually recall the moments of my alleged misbehavior on set and I honestly couldn’t find them,” Doherty, now 52, explained.

“I don’t ever remember being mean to her on set. I remember one episode I directed where she was doing something over Christmas break and they asked me to work on some stuff with her and I had no problem with that. I could not have been kinder and more understanding,” Doherty continued.

“I would definitely file a lawsuit and be honest about the situation because the rumors were following me for a long time afterwards. I would definitely handle things differently”, he explained and made it clear that in each case, he moved forward without managing to put Milano in peace.

It is noted that in the past Milan has appeared concerned, if not regretful, about the events.
