December is the month that Mariah Carey, 54, is on every Christmas playlist with the hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” On the eve of this holiday, the relationship between the singer and choreographer and dancer Bryan Tanaka, 40, came to an end after seven years. The information was revealed by People magazine on Monday (18).
A source informed Page Six that the reason for the end of the relationship was Tanaka’s desire to have children. The site claims that the 14-year age difference between the two played a role in the decision, with Tanaka wanting different things than Carey. “He wants to start a family. That’s not what she wants,” says the source.
The singer has 12-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, with her ex-husband Nick Cannon. Tanaka, on the other hand, has no children.
Speculation about a possible breakup began this week when Carey took her annual trip to Aspen, Colorado, alone. Tanaka was also absent from her “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour, which began in November.
Tanaka had worked as a dancer with Carey since 2006 and the two began dating in 2016, shortly after the singer’s marriage to Nick Cannon ended. “He wants to start having his own life,” another source told Page Six of the split.
Carey further fueled speculation that the relationship was over when she told People magazine that she had a difficult year. “I’ve been looking forward to this Christmas for, like, the whole year. Since last year, because last year wasn’t the best,” said the “Obsessed” performer.
“I’m grateful for all of them, but it wasn’t the most fun version of my Christmas.” Carey also promised to “have fun” during the 2023 holiday season “come what may.”
