Billie Eilish she received high praise for her singing “What Was I Made For?” and according to ‘Variety’ it is the best song of 2023. The song was written for the soundtrack of the film “Barbie”.
The 22-year-old artist – who appeared on Saturday Night Live this month – topped the magazine’s list, with Boygenius’ ‘Not Strong Enough’ and Drake’s ‘First Person Shooter’ coming in second and third respectively.
The magazine described the ballad, dreamed up by Billie and her brother Finneas, as “the best film theme since their own No Time to Die”, which was written for the 2021 James Bond film of the same name
The song debuted last July and was accompanied by a music video, with the famous songstress transformed into a blonde doll.
In an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, the singer revealed that she and her brother were in a creative stasis when they were approached to contribute to the “Barbie” soundtrack last December.
Billie noted that collaborating on a song for the album was unlikely because it had taken her many months to write the Oscar-winning No Time To Die.
