Rita Lee, Glória Maria, Tina Turner, Matthew Perry: remember who left us in 2023

This 2023 that is ending was a year that hurt our hearts. There were many losses, we had to say goodbye to important, beloved and loved personalities from various areas. It was not easy.

It wasn’t even Carnival yet when Glória Maria left us. Mother of Maria, 15, and Laura, 14, the journalist faced lung cancer and died on February 2, leaving the whole of Brazil in mourning. On May 8, another blow: the queen of Brazilian television journalism was joined by the Queen of Rock, Rita Lee, also a victim of a tumor, this one nicknamed ‘Jair” (why is that?), in a tirade that is proof that sarcasm and good humor accompanied her until the end.

In the months leading up to her death, fans followed Roberto de Carvalho’s loving posts on Instagram, who continued to pay tribute to his wife after her death. Passionate messages were posted day after day by his faithful admirers. Rita was veiled at the Ibirapuera Planetarium, surrounded by friends and family and without politicians, just as she wanted.

Brazil and the world also lost the powerful figure of Tina Turner on May 24, at 83 years old, and the charismatic “grandma” Palmirinha, at 91, opening a gap impossible to fill in the history of national gastronomy.

Two figures of fundamental importance in national culture also passed away: Aracy Balabanian, an actress who made a mark on Brazilian drama and humor, at 83 years old, and Léa Garcia, icon of “Black Orpheus”, a feature film by Marcel Camus, inspired by the play ” Orfeu da Conceição”, by Vinicius de Moraes, which won the Oscar for foreign film in 1959. The actress died at the age of 90, about to be honored at the Gramado Festival, for her work as a whole.
