Bike brand Monark denies relationship with YouTuber Monark after controversy

by

Monark, a Brazilian bicycle manufacturer, released this Thursday (10) a note claiming to have no relationship with presenter Bruno Aiub, 31, nicknamed Monark. The clarification comes days after Aiub became involved in a controversy defending the existence of a Nazi party.

“We inform you that we have no connection with the youtuber nicknamed Monark without any authorization from our Company. We strongly repudiate any manifestation of racism or conduct that could harm any person or social group”, says the text of the bicycle brand on its website. .

Monark, the youtuber, stated during the Flow Podcast, which he hosted, that “the radical left has much more space than the radical right”. “They both had to have space, in my opinion,” he continued on Monday (7). “I think the Nazi had to have the Nazi party recognized by law.”

The statement sparked outrage and led to Aiub being dropped from the podcast, of which he was co-creator as well as presenter. “I, of course, will have my stops and I will continue producing in my corner there. We will have a refund agreement”, he said in his last live as a member of the Flow Podcast, held on Tuesday (8).

Igor Coelho, 37, founding partner of the podcast, said the project will continue without Monark. He said he will buy Monark’s 50% stake in the company, and that the decision was made to keep not only Flow Studios, but also the jobs of many of the company’s employees – there would be around 80.

Despite sharing the same name, the brand and the youtuber are not related. The brand was founded in 1948, in the state of São Paulo. In 2008, the company closed two factories, one in Manaus and another in São Paulo, and transferred its production to the city of Indaiatuba, located in the interior of the state of SP.
