The mountain lake of Corinth with its turquoise waters – Watch video

by

An artificial mountain lake whose turquoise waters reflect the imposing peak of Durduvana and the colorful mixed forests of mountainous Corinth. Lake Doxa is located at an altitude of 900 meters in Ancient Feneo, Corinth.

Its construction was completed in the late 1990s, and was based on the Doxa torrent that flows in that area. Its perimeter, which is distinguished for the alternations in the landscape with rocks, wetlands and reeds, reaches 3.8 km. It is a relatively deep lake for its small size, as its depth reaches 40 meters.

In the past, the lake has flooded several times, covering the entire wider plain of Feneos and destroying the crops of the then inhabitants of the area. In the center of the lake there is the church of Agios Fanourios. The church celebrates on August 27, the day of the feast of the Saint, as well as the day of celebration of the Lights, where the waters of the lake are sanctified.

Formerly there was the Monastery of Agios Georgios but due to the floods it was moved a short distance from its original location, to a nearby hill. Doxa, although artificial, is considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Greece, as the autumn colors of the forest reflected in the emerald waters create a unique landscape for our country. Over the years the lake has developed into an important ecotourism attraction.
